Problem Statement

Traditional methods of creating X-rays for breast cancer detection often involve cumbersome processes that can lead to:

  • Hardware Dependency: Frequent physical interaction with X-ray machines, risking contamination and reducing efficiency.
  • Complex Workflow: Multi-step procedures that can slow down the screening process.
  • Limited Accessibility: Challenges in accessing and manipulating patient data quickly.

Objectives

  • Reduce Hardware Interaction: Minimize the need for physical contact with X-ray equipment through software-only solutions.
  • Optimize Workflows: Streamline the process to quicken and simplify the creation of X-rays.
  • Enhance Data Accessibility: Improve the ease of accessing and managing patient information.

Methodology

Research and Analysis
  • User Interviews: Conducted in-depth interviews with doctors and X-ray technicians to understand their workflow and pain points.
  • Process Observations: Analyzed the traditional workflow to identify inefficiencies and areas for improvement.
Key Findings
  • Healthcare providers desired a contactless solution to reduce infection risk and ergonomic strain.
  • The existing process was unnecessarily lengthy, involving multiple hardware interactions.
  • Better integration with patient records was needed for more seamless data management.

Design Solutions

1. Touchless X-ray Creation
  • Gesture Control Integration: Developed an intuitive interface allowing technicians to control equipment through gesture-based interactions.
  • Voice Command Features: Enabled voice-activated controls for essential functions to maintain focus on patient care.
2. Streamlined Workflow
  • Simplified User Interface: Designed a dashboard that consolidates all necessary actions for X-ray creation in a single view.
  • Automated Processes: Introduced automation for repetitive tasks, such as setting machine parameters and capturing images.
3. Enhanced Data Management
  • Real-Time Data Access: Implemented real-time syncing with health records, allowing instant access to patient data.
  • Centralized Information Display: Equipped the system with a centralized interface for tracking patient history, current scans, and follow-up actions.

Outcomes

  • Increased Efficiency: Reduced the time taken for X-ray procedures, allowing more patients to be screened.
  • User Satisfaction: Received positive feedback for the intuitive design and reduced physical strain.
  • Improved Safety: A contactless approach decreased the risk of contamination and increased ergonomic safety for technicians.

Reflections and Future Directions

  • Continuous Feedback Loop: Engaging with users throughout the design and testing phases ensured the solution met their needs.
  • Future Enhancements: Consider incorporating AI to assist with early detection and provide diagnostic suggestions.

The iSono Health application successfully addressed key challenges in breast cancer screening, enhancing the process for healthcare professionals and contributing to better patient care.
